He was born in a socially and politically active family. His father Bojja Appalasamy, was elected twice to the Legislative Assembly of the united Andhra Pradesh.
Bojja Tharakam was imprisoned during the emergency in 1975 for fighting for the rights of the people and he was one of the leading members of Andhra Dalit Movement in 1986. He was a human rights activist and stood specially for the rights of Dalits. He also filed a case against encounters by police in Supreme Court and demanded that the concerned officers should be booked. He won the case.
He argued Rohith Vemula’s social boycott at Central University of Hyderabad. He served all his life to spread the ideas of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in the society, especially among the youths. He was one of the front line achtivists for the cause of social justice and was the prime functionary in the All India Lawyers’ Forum for Social Justice. He was a comrade in ideas and joint fighter for social justice. He had attended many conferences convened by Dravidar Kazhagam both in Tamil Nadu and other states for the cause of social justice.
We got shocked to know the demise of Bojja Tharakam on 16th September 2016 at Hyderabad due to illness.
