I feel proud of being one of the beneficiaries of the sumptuous rational feast of thoughts provided by The Modern Rationalist magazine.
The magazine unfailingly fulfills the vision of Periyar’s concern for wider humanity. I doubt, if there is such a magazine in North India.
The Editorial rightly points out that the ‘Agnipath’ scheme’s ultimate aim is to tow in the line of the R.S.S. slogan ‘Militarise the Hindus, Hinduise the Military’. This is a vicious scheme using the government exchequer.
Quoting historian K.M Panikkar – “The most saleable commodity in India today is religion” is more relevant today and hence it is certainly an uphill task to counter the challenges the Rationalists are facing. The reason is found also in the words of Olga Jacoby, an eminent scholar and rationalist. In her book “WORDS IN PAIN”, she says.
“Science is turning on the light, but at every step forward dogmatic religion attempts to turn it out, and as it cannot succeed it puts blinkers on its followers and tries to make them believe that to remove them would be a sin.” (Page 34-MR July 2022)
Now let the Humanists and Rationalists continue to strive to remove the blinkers and make the people see the bright light of happiness and make others happy.
