We deeply mourn over the news that Thiru.Selvam (Age: 82), popularly known to the people as writer ‘Murasoli’ Selvam, passed away at his residence in Bangalore on Thursday, 10th October 2024, succumbing to a cardiac arrest.
He was formerly the editor and the Chairman of ‘Murasoli’, the Tamil Daily; the mouthpiece of the DMK. He had been a prolific writer contributing articles to ‘Murasoli’ under the pseudonym ‘Silandhi’ (Spider). He had been a strong pillar of ‘Murasoli’ for fifty long and glorious years.
He was grilled once in the State Assembly of Tamil Nadu for his fight for the fundamental right and freedom of thoughts and expression. Even then, he stood there majestically as an unperturbed Stalwart.
He was the nephew as well as a son-in-law of Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi. He was the younger brother too of ‘Murasoli’ Maran. Besides, he was the brother-in-law of our Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru.M.K. Stalin.
He generally avoided presence and publicity in lime light. He used to accomplish all the constructive tasks with an utmost sense of duty, added to his exemplary modesty and humility. He was greatly affectionate towards us, respecting us at all times.
We convey our heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family of ‘Murasoli’ Selvam; especially to his beloved wife Ms.Selvi and all the other members of their family. We express our sincere grief to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and all the cadres of the DMK. We deeply mourn over the irreparable loss and express consolation on behalf of our Dravidar Kazhagam (DK).
We salute ‘Murasoli’ Selvam in his honour.
Dr. K.Veeramani
President,
Dravidar Kazhagam
