Human wants are unlimited. If one want is satiated, he/she aspires for another or more wants. This is the nature of humans. As wants to be fulfilled are on the increase and life becomes complex, instead of leading a rational life for peace and prosperity, many people are fond of accessing god-men. God-men are not average humans – it does not mean that they do have special powers – but do possess some sort of psychological approach both individually and collectively. Besides, they exhibit themselves with systematic publicity and through public relations. People with much tension, stress and worries in their personal and official lives get themselves deceived as if they get solace for mind and body by meeting god-men.
Many god-men are experts in reading the face of the devotees. Talking to them in husky voice with consolation is considered to provide deceptive relief to the devotee. Secluding oneself from the daily routine of stressful life will itself cause some relief to the individual. Getting trapped in such temporary relief net of god-men, wealthy people who do visit god-men are not bothered about donating any sum to the institution of god-men, namely mutts. Such donations are paltry in comparison to the financial turnover managed by such wealthy devotees. Once such an institution gets established, the gullible devotees fall in line by hearsay news to seek the ‘blessings’ of god-men. These are the fundamentals in establishing the institution of god-men on an average. God-men who are well-versed in the line amass wealth beyond the frontiers of legal means and if opportunities forthcome they violate even the legal frame work. They consider themselves ‘divine’ persons of ‘extra’ power for which the ruling people are also supportive for the sheer cause of vote bank.

Many youngsters, who are in adolescent stage get attracted to certain god-men and spoil their life. They consider such god-men due to their brain storming activities that take place in the campus of such mutts of god-men. Many of such youngsters get detached from their parents and families and get addicted in being associated with god-men. Getting renunciation is different from getting addicted to a particular way of life. Even after attaining the adult stage and afterwards, they do not realise their way of life. Their parents or family members are not allowed to meet their wards. The inmates of such mutts are screened from public. It is said their erotic feelings are induced to the desire of god-men and their core circle disciples. Many staunch inmates who came to know of the immoral and illegal activities of the mutts have tried to escape from the fold of god-men, but their whereabouts are not known, leading to the sorrowful conclusion that they may not be alive at all. In certain mutts, crematorium has also been established without due approval from the authorities concerned.
More than the necessity of the inmates, the fatal end of the inmates should be known to public. More and more foreigners do get attracted to the activities of the mutts like Yoga, Yagna etc. and became residents of the mutt for an indefinite period, without due documents for immigration. The mutts that are started in a small scale, turns magnificent by constructing buildings and structures without getting due approval from the Town planning authorities besides encroaching large extent of reserve forest and public land. Whenever untoward incidents or law violations take place and dispute is raised during the auditing by the authorities, by taking the procedural steps in the judicial system, the mutts get stay and remain restrictive to the actions initiated by the authorities. Many of such god-men have registered their mutts as non-religious bodies but their style of functioning is almost imitate to religion.
They are getting protection quoting the freedom of speech and profession, the provisions in the Indian Constitution. They continue to survive, owing to the political patronage.One god-man and his mutt that gained public attention in recent times has been Nithiyananda and his mutt located in Pidadi, in Karnataka. Many branches have been formed in various States and even abroad. Sexual exploitation of women disciples of the mutt was exposed in social media that went viral widely. Many parents have lodged complaints to rescue their wards who went into the fold of the mutt. For many of the criminal offences committed by the mutt, warrant was issued to arrest Nithiyananda.
He moved to many places in the country in order to escape and ultimately got arrested and put behind the bar. He came out on bail and was obeying the stipulated conditions.
When the investigation on the many complaints was carried out, all of a sudden, it came to be known that Nithiyananda left the country and that his whereabouts were not known. One day, Nithiyananda without revealing his location, proclaimed that he is the head of an exclusive territory named ‘Kailasa’. Along with disciples mostly women declared his independence and said that he is issuing passport and visa for the visit of devotees. At the same time, the various branches of his mutt in India are also functioning.
Recently when one of the lady disciples of Nithiyananda responded in the court of law, annexing the land holding of individuals, to the mutt, and questioned the court whether it is not the duty of the court to protect the interest of the Mutt. When the Mutt head has done a grave offence against the State, by declaring an independent nation, how daringly the lady disciple is claiming for the right to be executed!
The action taken for the offence against the sovereignty of the State must not be confined to the respective mutt. It should send a message for other god-men in the country not to tread the illegal path of Nithiyananda. As a token of such action, all the properties of the Mutt of Nithiyananda must be attached, leaving mere means of survival of the inmates. The proliferation of such mutts will get assessed in future. The religious activities held in the country need not be confused or continued with the atrocities by certain Mutts that are held to encourage renunciation, seeking dheeksha and leading a secluded life. The desirous modes of the deeds of god-men as reincarnation of god must be exposed.
The President of the Dravidar Kazhagam Asiriyar Dr.K.Veeramani has appealed to the Government that the deeds of Nithiyananda like god-men are challenging the state and its authority. It is a positive move that Justice Bharadha Chakravarti, of Madras High Court had questioned the Mutt and their demand of protecting the ill-gotten wealth of the Mutt, run by Nithiyananda, Special legislation must be enacted country wide to curb the activities of such Mutts. Special wing to initiate and pursue the case must be created in the Police Department for speedy actions. State authority of Police Department must be specially equipped to deal with such cases.
Illegal activities of god-men are held under the garb of religion. Only gullible public get entrenched, incurring a huge financial loss. The addicted devotees of god-men must be rehabilitated, made fit enough to come back to normal life in society. Public awareness and caution must be displayed as a measure of prevention from falling a prey to the misdeeds of god-men.
