Obese are those who look like a mountain
of flesh. The condition of being too fat is called ‘Obesity’. Renowned scientific research journal ‘The Lancet’ recently conducted a research on obesity and revealed an alarming fact that more than thousand million people in this world suffer from obesity.
This includes children, young men and women and senior citizens. We are shocked and upset by the report that among all these obese people, 12.5 million are Indians. A forum of the world scientists and the World Health Organisation (WHO) collaborated with “The Lancet” and conducted this significant research.
63 million youngsters in the age group of 5 to 19, representing 195 countries participated in this massive research. Nearly 16 million people
in the age group of 20 and above were examined.
1500 scientists probed into the height and weight proportions (BMI). More than 20 million people underwent the bone marrow index test. This
research has been going on for 33 long years. ‘The Lancet’ magazine released the findings. The researchers say that malnutrition could also
cause loss of weight as well as excessive weight.
Compared to 1999, Obesity rate increased four- fold in 2022 according to them. They say, nearly 8 million youngsters are Obese in India. They are
in the age group of 5 to 19. About five million children are Obese here. 12 million kids are Obese all over India. The alarming statistics may
need an endless list. In brief, Obesity problem in India is frightening. Parental negligence is a matter of concern.
They should regularly monitor the diet system of children. Medical check-up should be compulsorily done in all our schools and colleges at regular intervals. Fast food, junk food and binge-watching (swallowing something non-stop while watching T.V. or Computer Screens) – must be avoided by young boys and girls. Parents of Obese children should drag them to medical practitioners without delay.
4th March, 2024 was celebrated everywhere as the “WORLD OBESITY DAY” to cause public awareness. The views of eminent physicians were published in leading newspapers. They have called Obesity a “Silent heart risk,” that could lead to various cardiovascular diseases. Renowned cardiologists have also suggested strategies for trimming belly-fat. According to them saying that “I am fat but fit” is a myth. Obesity would cause multiple biological complications. Being moderate in food habits is a sign of wisdom. My dear readers, eating to live makes our life lovable – not living to eat. The rest in my next.
