A writ petition was admitted at the Supreme Court of India, on arresting the alarming air pollution in Delhi. The worst air pollution remains unabated. People are unable to walk freely in public places. Government is on the move of asking employees to remain at home and do the work. “Work from home” was due to COVID-19 pandemic but now the cause of WFH system is believed to be air pollution.
At the time of hearing, when the judge asked the Solicitor General for the reason for grave air pollution in Delhi, the Government lawyer expressed that the air pollution is mainly due to the burning of stubbles in farms after harvest in the suburban areas of the city. Immediately the judges said that the farmers should not be blamed for the issue. They advised to file an affidavit, with elaborate details about the menace.
At the next hearing, when the government furnished causative factors for air pollution, it was found out that the major cause of the emission is industrial activities and vehicles without any pollution control on the part of the users. The judge exclaimed that “the cat is out of the bag!”
The judges pointed out that it is not fair to blame it entirely on farmers. The Union government is obviously suppressing the facts. The ‘Blame Game’ has now stopped. If the farmers remain united for ever they can prevent such blame games. The Union government which was adamant so far, has tentatively withdrawn all the three unjustified FARM LAWS. This proves the adage – “United, we stand; Divided; we fall”.
