How long our women folk are going to trust wicked tricksters, only to repent when it is too late? This is the thought provoking question that rises in our mind when we read about a woman molested by a charlatan in Thirupur District, Tamil Nadu.
The 39 year old woman has been working in a hosiery unit near Thirupur. Abandoned by her husband and son she had been living in destitution. She had watched a commercial on YouTube that was about a bogus “God man” named Arjun Krishna of Thirupur District who claimed black magic skill to solve all sorts of domestic problems.
The gullible woman contacted him and sought his help to reunite with her husband and son. The trickster has extorted from her nearly a sum of rupees two lakh as the cost of black magic ritual to fulfil her desire.
When no such ritual was performed and when the cheat went on dodging, she has met him again to get back her money. That is when the tragedy struck. He assaulted her sexually, filmed it cleverly and blackmailing her. She lodged a complaint with the police who took steps to nab the culprit, but he had absconded by then. When the news spread like wild fire, fifty other women lodged complaints about their having been duped by the same criminal.
It is high time our women stood away from this kind of blind trust in charlatans. Movements struggling to annihilate superstitions of women are terribly shocked by such crimes that are on steep rise. In this era of amazing advancement in science and technology if our women continue to be irrational, all the efforts of progressive movements striving for their upliftment would only be in vain. By believing stupidly in such ‘Godmen’ and their deceptive claims, women are digging their own grave. Let this incident alteast be the end of such crimes against women.
