A State Conference of Dravidar Kazhagam’s (DK) Youth Wing was held on 30th July 2022 at Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu. It was presided over by Asiriyar Dr. K.Veeramani, the President of the Dravidar Kazhagam and attended by thousands of cadres. Functionaries adorning vital positions in the movement were also present. Following deliberations and discussions over several current affairs and societal problems. 19 Resolutions were moved, passed and unanimously adopted as listed here below:
60,000 Subscriptions for ‘Viduthalai’
1. The world’s first rationalist Tamil daily ‘Viduthalai’ was started by the Justice Party in 1935 as a weekly and later Thanthai Periyar made it a daily. It was subsequently entrusted by him to Asiriyar Dr. K.Veeramani who has been shouldering it for the last sixty years with relentless toil and utmost dedication. Even during the period of global disaster of COVID-19 pandemic, he continued its publication and circulation. The conference conveys its gratitude to Asiriyar Dr. K.Veeramani for this historic achievement.
It was RESOLVED to collect 60,000 new subscriptions for ‘Viduthalai’ to commemorate 60 glorious years of his service as the Editor of this renowned daily newspaper. The Youth Wing swore to see that ‘Viduthalai’ reaches every home by the collective efforts of all the cadres in the Wing.
PERIYAR – 1000 Competition
2. School students of the present generation must know all about Periyar and his principles in order to elevate their level of intellect. With this objective, The Centre of Excellence for Periyar Thought has already announced the conduct of a competitive exam for school students, under the caption PERIYAR – 1000, on 19, 20 and 21 of August 2022 in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. These exams are to be conducted by the Centre concerned under the patronage of Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology (PMIST), Deemed to be University, in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Hence, it was RESOLVED to propagate these exams and enable large number of students appear and compete for the prizes. Since the Department of School Education in Tamil Nadu has also accorded its approval, the Youth Wing swore to work hard for the successful conduct of these exams.
EDUCATION AND STATE RIGHTS
3. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) and the New Education Policy (NEP) are all detrimental to the educational rights of our students. The conference condemned these hurdles caused by the Union Government. Attempts to privatise education, distorting history to promote Hindutva and unwarranted interventions into the rights of the State are hazardous to our welfare and progress. Hence, it was RESOLVED by the Youth Wing to protest against all such forms of social injustice. The cadres in the Wing swore to agitate against these, obeying the command of Asiriyar Dr. K.Veeramani, if required at any point of time in future. The conference urged upon all students and Youth Wing youngsters to strengthen the arms of Asiriyar Dr. K.Veeramani in his fight for social justice.
REPLACE THE GOVERNOR
4. The Governor of Tamil Nadu has been propagating the New Education Policy though the State has rejected it outright. He does this on the dais during convocation events too. He speaks at length on Sanatana Dharma which is unacceptable. He avoids consulting the State Government for Vice-Chancellor appointments. Almost all of his activities pose a threat to communal harmony and peace in the State. Hence, it was RESOLVED to urge the Union Government to replace the Governor with an alternative official, to avoid mutual recriminations and sustain the noble ideal of secularism.
THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN PROPAGANDA
5. There is a dire need of propagating the policies and thoughts of Periyar. The activities of the DK movement should also be known to our people everywhere. Through speech, writing, art and various programmes this can be done through social media and several technological modes. Exclusive workshops can be conducted to train the youth and form a stronger force of cadres. It was RESOLVED to execute all these by collective efforts of the youth wing.
HARMFUL ELEMENTS
6. R.S.S. and its wing A.B.V.P. have been intruding educational institutions and contaminating the minds of the youth by imposing undesirable concepts. The menace of fake news remains uncurbed. The harmful Fascist elements are being encouraged by the print and electronic media too. Hence, it was RESOLVED to urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to weed out such harmful elements at the earliest. Every possible step is to be taken to identify these nefarious outfits and annihilate them.
STUDENTS WELFARE
7. Students need effective counseling to avoid suicidal tendency, drug addiction, aggressive behavior and depressions. The conference RESOLVED to urge the government of Tamil Nadu to chalk out measures for students welfare from non- academic point of view too. The youth wing swore to work towards this. Young students must avoid wearing colour thread on their wrist as signs of religion and caste. The Government of Tamil Nadu should make experienced psychiatrists and scholars with scientific spirit to offer counseling to the young students. The Youth Wing assured to do everything possible and reform erring students.
REMOVAL OF SIDE – WALK TEMPLES
8. Religious, communal fanatics build temples on side-walk pavements causing great inconvenience. Idols are installed even in educational institutions. Public and private lands are encroached upon by such instant temples. It was RESOLVED to urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to take appropriate steps and even legal measures to get all such temples and idols removed.
DOMINATION OF OTHER STATE PERSONNEL
9. Most of the vacant positions in the Government sector and Private sector are being filled by recruiting candidates from other states in large numbers Tamil language is being brushed aside and replaced with Hindi and English. Knowledge in Tamil is not essential these days even for clerical jobs in banks. In polytechnic institutions too the domination of other state faculty has cropped up. Placements in Tamil Nadu must be only for the Tamils. Hence, it was RESOLVED to urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to prevent the domination of North Indians at all levels.
WORKSHOPS TO SPREAD PERIYARISM
10. Young men and women must be offered training and coaching in Periyarism. Exclusive workshops and training camps must be organized in every zone in the State to conduct training on Saturdays and Sundays. It was RESOLVED to go ahead with this objective and make youngsters attend these workshops in large numbers. The conference emphasized on this work and decided to give it top priority.
PERIYAR SOCIAL PROTECTION WING
11. For disaster management services, we need strong, energetic, healthy cadres to undertake rescue operations. For this, atleast 15 young men should be short listed in every district and suitablY trained. Hence, it was RESOLVED to establish ‘Periyar Social Protection Wing’ centers in every district. During natural disasters, the cadres trained by the system can rescue people in need of help, using their special skills. The Youth wing would begin its work towards this.
PERIYAR ACADEMY FOR BRAVERY SPORTS
12. Young men and women need training in traditional sports like Silambam, Kabbadi etc., as arts of defence. It was RESOLVED to establish Periyar Bravery Sports Academy in every district to teach youngsters such traditional games of bravery and valour. Competitions could be held and prizes awarded to motivate the youth. The youth wing swore to proceed with this work and plan suitably.
MAKING THE YOUTH WING STRONGER
13. Young cadres should travel all over Tamil Nadu and establish new Youth wings in every village, town, municipality and corporation zones. By touring widely and conducting discussion meets more and more youth wings are to be formed in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It was RESOLVED to begin this work and strengthen the youth wings by enrolment of new members.
STREET – CORNER MEETINGS
14. To make people understand better the views of Asiriyar, Street – Corner meetings are to be conducted. Awareness meetings must be held in rural areas. Various Statements of Asiriyar being published in ‘Viduthalai’ should be explained to the common public. It was RESOLVED to make the youth wing members commence this vital task and enable people to realize the truth behind various current affairs and burning problems.
ORGAN & BLOOD DONATIONS
15. Organ donations and blood donations make us true humanists. Hence, it was RESOLVED to conduct blood camps in every district and make people come forward for organ donations when their family members pass away under tragic circumstances.
WIDOW REMARRIAGES AND SELF RESPECT MARRIAGES
16. Widow remarriages and self respect marriages are signs of social reform. They also help annihilation of caste disparity and formation of an egalitarian society. Hence, it was RESOLVED to spread awareness on these two aspects and encourage people to come forward.
ERADICATION OF SUPERSTITIONS
17. Hundreds of superstitious activities still continue in our society. The list would be endless. It was RESOLVED to urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to take steps to abolish them. The Union Government must also see that scientific spirit is safeguarded as per Article 51A(h) of our Constitution. Rationalist outlook should be insisted upon.
CENTER FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
18. Similar to the Monitoring Committee for Social Justice established by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Union Government should also establish a committee to monitor implementation of social justice throughout the country.
Vacancies are to be filled as per Reservation Policy. The downtrodden people should be taken care of in every manner. Human rights must never be snatched. Maladministration and misuse of powers must be curbed. It was RESOLVED to urge the Union Government to ensure that social Justice prevails in every issue.
19 (a) UNION GOVERNMENT HEADED BY THE B.J.P.
The present Union Government headed by the B.J.P. has proved itself to be undemocratic and absolutely autocratic. Hence it was RESOLVED to bring about a change by collective efforts.
19 (b) STRESS ONE SINGLE CASTE
They scream – “One country! One religion! One language! One culture!” Asiriyar Dr. K.Veeramani has been asking time and again –
“Will they ever say ONE CASTE?”
But the question continues to remain unanswered. Caste – evil persists! Asiriyar’s question seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Hence it was RESOLVED to create an awareness among people in this regard. People should realize that there is no redemption for us until castes are annihilated. Religious fanatics should eradicate first the evil term “CASTES” The youth wing swore to chalk out measures to make people wakeup from slumber.
Having unanimously adopted all the nineteen significant resolutions, the conference ended successfully.
