Dr. Pushpa Mittra Bhargava, an eminent scientist, a science agitator and valiant fighter against everything that is unscientific died in Hyderabad on August 1, 2017 and he was 89.
He was a scientific institution builder par excellence. Dr. P.M.Bhargava was instrumental in the foundation of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, and has served its Founder-Director.
He was an atheist – humanist. He served as Vice–Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission, Government of India. He associated himself with the movements that served for the cause of eradication of superstitions and for developing scientific temper in the citizens of the country.
We recall the participation of Dr. P.M.Bhargava in the 200th birth anniversary of Charles Darwin, Father of Evolution Theory, organized by The Rationalists’ Forum, Tamil Nadu at Periyar Thidal, Chennai in 2009. He visited Periyar Maniammai University, Vallam, Thanjavur and addressed the students, inculcating scientific temper in them.
We salute the atheist – scientist and activist to develop scientific temper for all his noble contributions for the cause.
