The Youth Wing of the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) convened a meeting on 11th May 2025 at Periyar Thidal, Chennai, to discuss moot points and chalk out plan for future activities. Seven Resolutions were proposed and seconded. They were all given unanimous consent by the Youth Wing members. The Resolutions were as follows:
-
Obedience promised
As the Sun of Rationalism, Thanthai Periyar made us all self-respectives. Following in his foot prints, Asiriyar Veeramani taught us dignified ways of life. Having learnt from both, the lessons for a lifetime, our youth wing exists today in the movement like a sword and a shield. Asiriyar nurtured and raised us all with absolute military discipline. It was he who moulded and shaped our youth wing. It is RESOLVED to obey his commands at all times and prove our allegiance to him. We shall restlessly be involved in the field work and strengthen his hands through our loyal services. The youth wing promises to support him with an unflinching resolve.
-
Caste census
The decision of the Union Government to implement caste census is a victory achieved by the Periyar land and its people. As stressed time and again by Asiriyar, this guarantees social justice for all of us. The Dravidar Kazhagam (DK), DMK and the Congress as well as other parties that were all advocates for social justice had been persistently striving to achieve this essential objective. We should not remain contented with mere announcement. We have to get the caste census implemented. Motivating all our people to achieve this is very important. As the first step towards this task, we have to make thousands of copies of Asiriyar’s book – “Why do we need caste census?” (ஜாதி வாரிக் கணக்கெடுப்பு ஏன்? எதற்காக?), reach our people living in all the districts. This would inspire our people and bring about an awareness in them. Hence, it is RESOLVED to accomplish this task in order to pave the way for the implementation of caste census.
-
Bike rally and Huddle
Commemorating the centenary of the Self-Respect Movement, the DK Youth Wing would organise a motor bike Rally and conduct a massive huddle at the culmination point. Hence, it is RESOLVED to conduct these on behalf of our Dravidar Kazhagam – Youth Wing, during June-July 2025, in all the districts of Tamil Nadu. A public meeting would be held at the place where the bike – rally ends in each city and town.
-
An exhibition for awareness
Displaying pictures and information related to Self-Respect Movement in exhibitions all over the State would certainly cause an impact on the minds of people. Audio-visual presentation would help people understand all about this noble movement. Hence, it is RESOLVED by the Dravidar Kazhagam Youth Wing to make arrangements for such awareness fairs and exhibitions in every district and in every prominent city and town. This would surely crop up an awareness in our people.

Names in Tamil
Many of the cities and towns in Tamil Nadu bear Sanskritised names. For instance, the Tamil Name Thirumudhukundram was changed as Vriddhachalam by the impact of cultural invasion. Several forums, outfits and movements including the Dravidar Kazhagam have been agitating there for a long period demanding the change of name. In the State Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu, a member hailing from Vriddhachalam had spoken insisting on the change of name. His request for replacing it by a Tamil Name is yet to be complied with. Not only the name ‘Vriddhachalam’ but also the names of several other cities bear Sanskritised names, concealing their original Tamil names. The Dravidar Kazhagam Youth Wing urges the Government of Tamil Nadu to probe into this issue and take steps to rename all such cities / stations.
The Youth Wing conveys its hearty thanks to the Government of Tamil Nadu for announcing that a new website would be formed to encourage giving Tamil Names to new born children. Parents should come forward to implement it. This Dravidar Kazhagam Youth Wing urges the Government of Tamil Nadu to award a prize to such parents as a token of appreciation. Hence, it is RESOLVED to persuade the Government of Tamil Nadu to take appropriate steps and comply with both the requests of ours – Tamil Names to Cities / Stations and Tamil Names to new born kids.

Reading rooms for the people
Reading rooms in cities and towns played a vital role in the development and amazing growth of Dravidian movements. Rooms exclusively meant for reading provided people with an easy access to our publications. Our periodicals were read and enjoyed by millions of readers. By the patronage and financial aid of the cadres of our Dravidar Kazhagam Movement, numerous reading rooms were opened all over the State. The hard work of our cadres should get credit for this. Now we have to revamp all the existing reading rooms and equip them with sophisticated devices. All the reading rooms are to be modernised with a total face lift. Young readers should be captivated by the ambience and facilities. Innovative infrastructure must be introduced. It is hereby RESOLVED to urge our Asiriyar to permit us to go ahead with this task. We seek his consent to open new reading rooms. Our youth wing is prepared to fulfil this task.

Abolishing Superstitions
Article 51A(h) of our Constitution insists on inculcating Scientific temper and spirit of enquiry in our people but we find society soaked in the filth of numerous superstitions and blind beliefs. There are tricksters and charlatans everywhere deceiving gullible people by fraudulent tactics. It is our bounden duty to draw out these innocent people from the darkness of ignorance.
Fake god men are another menace for us. People willingly and sometimes unwillingly get victimised by these wicked god men. In an era of Artificial intelligence and astonishing technological advancement, superstitions are a matter of shame for us all. Print and electronic media cause alarming spread of superstitions. We must eradicate this by vigorous propaganda and awareness schemes. A law should be enacted to abolish superstitions. Workshops and training centers are also needed. The Dravidian Model Government of Tamil Nadu is a source of inspiration for all the States. Tamil Nadu should be at the forefront as far as rationalism is concerned.
The Government of Tamil Nadu is requested by this Youth Wing of the Dravidar Kazhagam to do everything possible to annihilate superstitions. Young men and women of the new generation should come forward to propagate our views all over the State, through perfect co-ordination. Tamil Nadu should be the first State in the achievement of this objective. All the members of the Youth Wing are requested to take this Resolution seriously and begin their work related to this significant mission. Hence it is hereby RESOLVED to urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to chalk out suitable remedial measures and help us abolish forever, all sorts of superstitions.
