A young team of Engineering students of the National University of Singapore have recently invented an electric powered aircraft, capable of a vertical take-off and a smooth landing. Presently this is not meant to be a mode of routine travel and transportation. This is devised for a recreational purpose for a single person to fly for about five minutes.
May be possible in the days to come to make it better both in its load-bearing capacity and also in making it operational for a long time. The team of young and budding scientists hope that the coming year will bring their Lilliputian machine to commercialisation.
The entire contraptions is made of aluminium carbon fibre plates and tubes. The flyer’s seat is in the centre of the machine. The bottom of the seat is a flat inflated ball that absorbs shock when the pilot lands on the ground. A separate switch, controllable from the ground is there in case of necessity for emergency landing. Dr.Joerg Weigl is one of the two supervisors of this technical project of the university. The entire team is consisting of undergraduate students of Engineering in NUS.
Periyar predicted with foresight that such sort of scientific invention in the year 1972 itself. Periyar said, ‘’ Just like birds, humans can also fly in air alone through the self operated battery and motor. That will happen in the next century (21st Century)”. Besides he said that average life longevity of humans would be nearing 100 years. Periyar’s Dream has transformed as Reality.
