The 70th Annual Ganesh Chaturthi was held on 7th September, 2024 at King Circle in Mumbai, on behalf of the Gowd Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) Seva Mandal. 66 kg. of gold and 325 kg. of Silver have been used to adorn the idol with ornaments. A large part of it has been the contributions of common public. The idol was hailed as the richest “Ganesh” in the country.
What surprises us is the news report that the canopy where this idol was placed was insured for 400 crore rupees at New India Assurance. Last year, an idol placed at the same place was insured for 360 crore rupees. This year it has enhanced.
The insurance covers theft, fire accident, tremor and other kinds of disasters. The purohits, devotees, workers, security guards and all the objects used at the spot are protected by this insurance cover. At present our women who are our homemakers, suffer everywhere from lack of protection. An immersible idol made of clay has been insured for Rs.400 crore. Are we really progressive?
