Rahul Gandhi has asserted that the practice of deeming eligible candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities as “not suitable” for educational leadership roles is a modern form of “Manuvaad”. He stated that this deliberate labelling is a euphemism for casteist thinking, aimed at keeping these communities out of education and leadership positions. Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, highlighted that over 60 per cent of reserved professor posts and more than 30 per cent of reserved associate professor posts remain vacant due to this mechanism. He characterized this as a “conspiracy” and an “attack on the Constitution,” calling it a “betrayal of social justice”. Quoting B.R.Ambedkar, Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi-led government and the RSS of undermining education, alleging that the Modi government is “blunting that weapon”.
