Conducting Yagna and sacrificing animals in the fire were not the events of ancient vedic period. It continues even at present world of scientific and technological advancements.
In the ancient temple, situated in the village Mattur of Shimoga District of Karnataka, an ancient yagna viz. Soma Yagna was preformed from 22-27 April 2016. The Yagna was conducted by the team of 17 Sangethi brahminical priests. The Yagna continued uninterruptedly during the period both in day and night hours. It is said that EIGHT goats and TWO calves were given as sacrifice at the altar of ‘holy’ fire. The flesh of burnt goats and calves were distributed to the participants as sacred food. With the evidence of the video clippings, a complaint was lodged at the nearby Sri Kandapuram police station. On investigation, it is said that the police confirmed the performance of Yagna and the sacrifice of animals at the altar of Yagna fire.
Many political parties have condemned the performance of Yagna. Sanad Kumar, a scholar admitted that he had participated in the performance of Yagna in the capacity of Sanskrit Scholar. He had stated that the Yagna, performed was not for any electoral victory in Tamil Nadu but for the noble principle and welfare of mankind. What sort of welfare, the mankind is going to derive? Who knows it?
