Teachers have the noble responsibility of inculcating the spirit of unity and universal brotherhood in the minds of young students. A recent incident in Lucknow district makes us lose all hope. A lady teacher working at Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar (U.P.) has instructed Hindu children in her class room to hit a Muslim student one by one. She had mocked at his Muslim faith and had also commented derogatorily on Mohammedan children. The shocking incident has gone viral in social media.
The teacher concerned is Tripta Tyagi. How ironic is the ‘Tyagi’ suffix! The seven year old was continuously slapped on the face. In the video which has gone viral, the teacher is seen encouraging all the students to hit him harder. The incident has led to widespread outrage of the viewers, who demand severe action against the teacher.
As per news reports the police department initiated action and conducted a formal enquiry. The teacher had defended herself by clarifying that she just punished the boy for lagging behind in studies.

She had commented that Muslim mothers neglect the progress of their children in education and that she was actually interested in the academic welfare of the children hailing from the minorities in society. Press reports say that she sought pardon for her behaviour and that the distressed boy’s father agreed for a compromise. He has added that he would not allow his son to continue studies in that school. He has commented that the teacher concerned has caused dreadful hatred and animosity among young students.
The chief of the department of Electronics and Information Technology headed by the BJP, Amit Malaviya, has denied communal angle to the bizarre incident. He has defended the cruel act of hatred and discrimination. Spreading communal hatred for political gains is unpardonable, indeed. The teachers are expected to serve as guardians of communal harmony, universal brotherhood and social justice. Hence, this incident is undeniably contemptible.
