Brihanmumbai (Greater Mumbai) Municipal Corporation has brought in a proposal for making yoga and surya namaskar mandatory in corporation schools of Mumbai, which has, naturally, met with stiff opposition. Samajwadi Party has called sun worship, a form of Hindu worship, and hence the move a way to promote Hindutva and has called for its removal from the proposal. It has further alleged that the move would discourage Muslim parents from sending their wards to the corporation schools. Congress went a step further, called the move ‘unconstitutional’, and readied itself to oppose it tooth and nail. Even the timing of the proposal was questioned. It was alleged that the BJP – Siva Sena combine has played the saffronisation card since the election for the corporation is round the corner.
But the combine is in no mood listen to the opposition. They seem to be determined to go ahead with their Hindutva agenda. The religious move in educational institution has invited wrath of the public which is likely explode dangerously. The saffron forces have to withdraw their agenda in schools or will be compelled to do so in the nearing election process.
