Asiriyar Dr. K.Veeramani addresses the General Council of the DK
The General Council meeting of the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) was held on 13th May 2023 in Erode, Tamil Nadu. It was presided over by Asiriyar K. Veeramani, the President of the D.K. 13 highly significant and vital resolutions were adopted and unanimously passed during the Special Meet:
RESOLUTIONS
Celebration of Centenaries
1. The first resolution is certainly a very special one, pertaining to the centenary celebrations of certain milestone events in the history of the DK movement. Vaikom Satyagraha and Cheranmadevi Gurukulam agitation have become century old historical events. A similar great event was the excavations and archaeological discoveries by Sir. John Marshal in the Indus Valley. Those reports helped the world know the ancient history of the Dravidians. It is RESOLVED to organise the centenary celebration of all these events in order to spread far and wide Periyar thought. The celebrations would make every future generation understand the relentless struggle of our movement for the noble causes of social transformation, caste eradication, equality, self respect, humanism and social justice. Hence it is unanimously RESOLVED to chalk out plans for celebrations, by collective efforts.
Greetings to Dravidian Model Rule
2. The Dravidian Model rule by Hon’ble Chief Minister M.K. Stalin completed two years on 7th May 2023. Most of his promises through the election manifesto have been performed. He has also accomplished certain welfare measures that were not included in it then. On an All India level, the State of Tamil Nadu has emerged second to none. It is RESOLVED to place on record the commendation over the achievements of the DMK, for which the DK is the parent movement. The Dravidar Kazhagam conveys its hearty congratulations to the Chief Minister upon his tremendous achievements in all respects. It was hence resolved to place on record the sincere appreciation of the DK.
Abandon the NEP 2020
3. The New Education Policy (NEP) imposed by the Union Government has already been rejected by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
It is RESOLVED to urge it to reject it completely and avoid accepting even a few aspects in it under any circumstance. The rejection ought to be total and not partial.
Imposing Hindi, Sanskrit under the guise of NEP 2020
4. It is observed that Hindi and Sanskrit are being imposed under the garb of New Education Policy (NEP). Recently, the Union Government announced renaming All India Radio as Akashvani. During the past three years it has allocated Rs.648.84 crores of rupees for the flourishing of Sanskrit, which is a dead language, but only Rs.29 crore has been allotted for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Odiya languages put together. The General Council believes this impartial allocation is injustice. Undue prominence to Sanskrit, which is a symbol of brahminist culture, is condemned by the Council. It is RESOLVED to chalk out remedial measures by the collective fight of all the secular social justice forums, in order to defeat the strategic ploy of the BJP led Union Government.
Defeating anti secular government
5. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) which has been ruling since 2014, headed by the BJP has been insisting on establishing the principle of ‘One country’, One language, One culture’. This is against our constitution which stresses social justice, secularism and democratic objectives. This unjust policy is detrimental to all of us. Hence, it is RESOLVED to collectively strive hard and defeat this Fascist government in the forthcoming parliament elections of 2024. All the political parties and social reformatory movements are urged upon joining hands with us and overthrow this authoritarian Union government.
Appeal against HC order on Archaka appointments
6. By the efforts of honourable Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, 28 Archakas shortlisted from all the castes were duly appointed in temples in Tamil Nadu state. Two brahmin priests serving Murugan Temple at Kumaravayol, near Srirangam in Trichy district filed a suit against the G.O. concerned. The Madras High Court subsequently declared the G.O. null and void.
It is RESOLVED to urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to appeal against this verdict inorder to curb the social injustice. The general council expects the government of Tamil Nadu to chalk out appropriate steps in this regard. Caste eradication and abolishing untouchability should always be our principal objectives.
Manipur riots: what does it reveal?
7. The ethnic violence in Manipur caused by clashes between the Meitei community and the group of tribals have led to mass dislocations, loss of lives, vandalisation and terrible arson in several districts of Manipur. The government headed by the BJP was backed by the National People’s Party (NPP). The Meiteis demand ST status, but the tribal leaders believe it would adversely affect the reservations to the tribal communities. The violence in Manipur was indeed avoidable but the state government headed by the BJP has been biased towards one dominant section.
Therefore it is RESOLVED to urge all the parties in favour of the BJP to realise the imminent danger to social justice and isolate the party forever. The general council stresses united efforts by all to overthrow the autocratic BJP headed Union Government in the 2024 elections to safeguard Social Justice.
Withdrawal of Amended rules of Information Technology
8. According to the report of the forum Reporters without Borders (RWB), among 180 countries enjoying Press Freedom, India has secured the 161st place, as per its survey. In 2022, our country was in the 142nd place. There is an obvious downfall in 2023. Press Freedom has been stifled ever since Narendra Modi headed the Union Government in 2014. The print media journalists criticising the BJP Government are being punished and imprisoned under sedition charges. The bill introduced recently by the BJP Government has imposed unjust amendments to the rules related to Information and Technology sector. It is RESOLVED to get all the amendments withdrawn as a mark of commemorating the World Press Freedom Day. Several print media magnates and Human Rights Movements have jointly released a statement demanding the withdrawal of amendments. This council urges all like- minded forces to conserve press freedom by defeating the ploy of the Union Government.
Abolish ‘NEET and NEXT
9. The request for exempting the State of Tamil Nadu from NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is yet to be granted. It continues to remain on the back burner. The ‘NEXT’ (National Exit Test) exam after completing studies in medicine is another unwarranted menace.
It is RESOLVED to urge all the political parties to fight collectively, irrespective of ideologies and principles, and get rid of both, by appropriate remedial measures.
Provide ‘reservation for OBC/SC/ST in private sectors:
10. Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation(LPG) have grown as vital economic policies. Anticipating privatisation, nearby 11 lakhs jobs remain unfilled in public sector. At this juncture, reservations in private sector jobs have become inevitable for progress. Hence it is RESOLVED to urge the government of Tamil Nadu and the Union Government to help all the BC/MBC/OBC/SC/ST and other minorities get reservation in jobs even in all the private sector organisations.
Aryan Dravidian Warfare
11. The warfare going on in our country is in brief, a struggle between the Aryans and Dravidians It is is being lauded all over the country. It is RESOLVED by the General Council to ignite an awakening among the non-brahmins and overthrow the present Fascist Union Government headed by the BJP, when we face the Parliament elections in 2024. By our collective efforts this can be achieved and a new era would certainly begin.
Enhancing the membership and activities
12. It is RESOLVED to workhard and spread the branches of the Dravidar Kazhagam everywhere. Without any gender bias and discrimination, all the young cadres should work seriously and enhance the number of members in our movement. The flag of our movement should fly high everywhere. Subscribers for ‘Viduthalai’ should increase. Propaganda meets must be held in every district, every city and town. Annual events should be conducted everywhere. Stalwarts of the movement must be honoured and felicitated. The books, papers and all the publications must be widely sold and circulated. Leaflets, fliers, writings on the wall, street corner meetings and various other modes are to be adopted to make our DK Movement reach a glorious pedestal. The council resolves to achieve this objective.
HQ & DK must be in continuous communication
13. It is RESOLVED to urge all the cadres and functionaries to keep regular touch with the DK Head Quarters and inform about the problems faced in their zones. By a healthy rapport with the Head Office of the Movement, solutions can be arrived at without delay. Hence, the council urges everyone to continue interactions and communications. All are requested to work with an unflinching resolve and keep the Head Quarters informed about every problem in their particular area.
The General Council Meeting successfully concluded when all the thirteen resolutions were unanimously moved, adopted and passed.
