One more controversy has erupted from the Sangh Parivar stalwarts by putting forth Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution as ‘scientifically wrong’ with mythical mind-set, packed with imaginative and exaggerative puranas, idhihas etc. The Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Mr. Satyapal Singh has commented the theory as ‘scientifically wrong’ in an unscientific way. By wielding the political power at their disposal, Sangh Parivar ideologists have been getting exposed in all the platforms of science debates and deliberations. Despite the inability to prove their statements, they continuously and consistently maintain the scientific findings as inconsistencies.
The statement of the State Minister gets exposed with the disagreement, ‘nobody including our ancestors have written or orally communicated that when they went to a jungle or a town, there they saw an ape turning into a man. The saffron minister’s statement is nothing but absurd!
The scientific founding of origin of species, the theory of natural selection and evolution by Charles Darwin received heavy condemnation by the religious clergies of those days stating that the theories were diametrically opposite to the sermons of the biblical texts. The stand of the religious clergies was rude with the blind belief and faith on their religious text that Adam and Eve were the direct design of ‘god’. Despite the opposition from the Catholic clergy, Darwin’s theory became acceptable by the sheer strength of its scientific basis, through which conclusions were arrived at. But after years, decades, and centuries the institution of religious clergies had accepted the theory of Darwin and had the courage of advocating the theory in the academic curriculum of their educational institutions.
The severity of opposition in founding the scientific facts like Earth is not flat, Earth revolves round Sun and not vice versa etc., existed and the proponents of such facts were persecuted, underwent sufferings without dignity and died at last without any recognition of their persona as well as their findings. Later as the founded facts got strengthened, the unceremoniously buried body of the scientist Copernicus who discovered that Earth revolves round the Sun (Heliocentricism) was unearthed and again buried with due honour of the State and respect by the religious clergies. Despite the negation of and resistance to scientifically proven facts at the initial stages, the West has witnessed many incidents of intellectual honesty.
‘This is the galloping gap between the science and scientific temper for which Indian Constitution envisages ‘Developing scientific temper’, the fundamental duty of every citizen of the country. Can responsible persons who took oath of office by abiding the Constitution violate its provisions?
How could human evolution have taken place overnight? The evolution of living things of comparatively high order had commenced from the primitive things. The genetic compositions of humans as Homo sapiens came into existence many millennia ago as the result of evolution or mutation. How could the process of evolution be witnessed by humans in person? The process that stretches over many millennia cannot be confined to a single human generation or a few. It is akin to the task of quantifying the entire sea water of the globe with a little measuring jar!
The saffron minister without any authenticity to support his statement said, ‘Darwin’s theory of evolution of humans is scientifically wrong. It needs to change in school and college curriculum. Since the time man was seen on Earth, he has always been a man.” It is not that the individual minister alone had uttered like this; the saffron ideology in and around him emboldened him to speak like this audaciously. It is ‘the most unkindest cut’ of all!
All the learned persons and scientist fraternity must have revolted at the statement; only a few have expressed. This is the galloping gap between the science and scientific temper which Indian Constitution envisages ‘Developing scientific temper’, is the fundamental duty of every citizen of the country. Can responsible persons who took oath of office by abiding the Constitution violate its provisions? The responsible minister is not with mere political power. The minister is academically qualified in research with Ph.D., and in career with significant service in IPS cadre.
The Union Cabinet Minister of Human Resource Development has asked his Junior Minister to refrain from making comments on the issue. The Senior did not tell anything about the veracity of the statement of the Junior. Commenting on scientific facts without quoting any evidence scientifically is the style of functioning of Sangh Parivar. The blind belief and mere faith of Sangh Parivar have been imposed continuously on the scientific theories, discoveries and inventions as if they hold the patent for doing so.
Proven Scientific theories cannot be easily disputed without sufficient proof by the saffron politicians of this ‘Bharat Varsha’!
What a pity our Nation is facing!
