While narrating why Self-Respect Movement was founded in 1925, Thanthai Periyar, explained that the principles of the Movement is not confined to a particular territory but to the whole humanity.
In 1929 and 1954 Periyar visited Malaya twice, and Myanmar to spread the ideals of Self Respect and Reasoning which are integral to every human. Besides, in 1931, he went to Soviet Russia (94 days), Greece, Egypt, Germany and England for the total period of 331 days. After Periyar, his ideals were taken up by Asiriyar Dr.K. Veeramani under the Mission of Globalizing Periyar to wider range of continents. Periyar International was founded in USA in 1994 by the committed followers of Periyar’s ideals. International Conferences on Periyar Self-Respect, humanistic ideals and on the Movement were conducted in Koln, Germany (2017), Springfield, Maryland, USA (2019) and Toronto, Canada (2022) in co-ordination with the humanist organisations, functioning in the respective countries.
Adding further dimension to the Periyar Mission, Asiriyar Dr.K. Veeramani, President of Dravidar Kazhagam toured through Australia at the invitation of Periyar Ambedkar Thought Circle, Australia (PATCA). Asiriyar commenced his tour to Australia on 12th March with brief halt in Singapore and returned to Chennai on 29th March. He participated and addressed the integrated meetings on World Women’s Rights Day in Sydney, Brisbane, Goldcoast, Canberra and Melbourne. He was accompanied by Advocate A.Arulmozhi, the Propaganda Secretary, Dravidar Kazhagam. He gave interviews to four broadcasting channels and a T.V. channel. Former and Present Members of Australian Parliament addressed the meetings. Many members of PATCA attended the meet along with their family members. Almost in all the meetings, the participations were like ‘Family get together Meet’ and everyone listened to the lectures delivered by Asiriyar Dr.K.Veeramani.
